Village Hall & Pavilions

We hope you have all had a lovely summer, what a scorcher! Hope you all found ways to keep cool and still enjoy it.  I am sure in a few months we will be grateful for the rain. 

Brailes Show was an amazing day and we hope you all managed to get along and enjoy it, Katie Hayock and her team did a wonderful job so thank you!  

By the time you read this we should hopefully be admiring our new Kitchen.  We are grateful for a grant from Stratford District Council that has allowed us to complete thisproject and a substantial donation from a very generous supporter of the Hall to add the extras like new flooring in the foyer and toilets and a new door to the side of the Kitchen.  We are very grateful also to Selina Hosell, grant applier extraordinaire, without whom this would not have been possible. We would like to put some finishing touches to the new Kitchen so we are hoping you will support our Coffee Morning on Saturday 12^th September 10 to 12noon at the Hall where you can come and take a look with a bacon butty or cake in one hand and a raffle ticket in the other.  Everyone is welcome and any funds raised with go towards new tea towels, table cloths etc so that we are all posh for many years to come.!   Please see details on the poster in this months Feldon. 

We also have two other fund-raising events coming up, Susan Gilkes’s famous Quiz Night on Saturday 17^th October and a Race Night on the 21^st November.  Details of these will following in future Feldons.  We hope that you will support us to help keep the Village Hall, Pavilion and Play Area thriving in our lovely Village. Thank you. 

We are very grateful to our regular hirers that support us with their weekly and monthly bookings.  We appreciate everyone’s patience whilst the kitchen refurbishment had been happening so thank you.

How It Works
Each ticket gives you a numbered entry into the 100 Club draw. Winners will be selected at each draw and contacted directly. The more tickets sold, the more we can raise for the Hall and Pavilion.

The ticket price is just £48  (you can pay in one go or  in instalments) 
Draw Date 1^st of each month commencing on the 1^st of October

We have exciting News!  We have been awarded a grant from Straford District Council as part of the 80th anniversary year of VE and VJ day ‘Community Grant Scheme 2025.  From this we have been awarded £20,000 to refurbish the Village Hall kitchen. KK Kitchen Designs from Shipston on Stour won the contract and we are busy working with them to bring you a lovely new kitchen that we hope all hirers of the Hall will appreciate.   The refurbishment will happen during the last two weeks of August when the Hall is at its quietest so that hopefully we can have a grand opening early in September.  We will be holding an open afternoon early in September when you can all come and take a look and perhaps raise a few extra pennies to buy so new tea towels etc to go with the new kitchen.  We hope that you will all join us.  
 
Up until then we hope to have a busy summer and an amazing Brailes Show on Saturday 8^th August.   The Village Hall Committee will be running the Raffle so please come and see us and buy a ticket or six! 
 
We held our AGM in May where it was lovely to welcome some new faces and we are very grateful to all the Committee who agreed to continue for another year.  Although new volunteers are always welcome whether it’s helping out on a one-off basis or as a regular volunteer.   The Hall, Pavilion and Play Area need the Villagers to survive!   The Play Area sub committee especially are in need to help.  Katie has included a piece in this month’s Feldon highlighting how you can so please do get in touch. 
 
We are very grateful to the Three Hills Walk Committee who donated £3,000 to the Pavilion from another successful event on Bank Holiday Monday 4^th May.  Without their support the facilities would not exist.  There is news in the pipeline that a junior football group may be using the facilities in the coming months, will be good to get more sport on the playing field.

May is our AGM month and no jokes, we do need your help!  We would love it if some lovely new faces or even familiar ones from the Village would come along and offer to help swell our small friendly Committee so that we can continue the work keeping the Village Hall, Pavilion and Play Area open and thriving. Every offer of help is gratefully received so we look forward to seeing you on Thursday 28^th May at 7pm in the Village Hall – FREE TEA/COFFEE AND BISCUITS!  Now there is an offer you can’t refuse! 😊. 
 
Before that there is the annual Three Hills Walk on Monday 4^th May.  Sadly, no caravans joining us on the field this year but we hope to see the rest of you taking part and enjoying the wonderful views from the top of Brailes Hills, Castle Hill and Mines Hill and then back at the Hall for refreshments and a well-earned drink.  If you can help with any of the numerous jobs that make this event so successful, please contact Ben Venables email: be*@******il.com.  Funds raised go to Brailes School, the Pavilion and other worthy causes.
 
Just before the Walk on Saturday 2^nd May St Georges Church will be holding their Spring Market at the Village Hall 10 to 12 noon with lots of stalls to tempt you.  Entrance is £2 to include unlimited tea, coffee and biscuits.  
 
Congratulations to Brailes Brownies who are celebrating their 70th Birthday this year and will be marking the occasion with an Afternoon Tea Party in the Village Hall on Saturday 16^th May 2.30 to 4.30pm .  All welcome. 
 
Susan Gilkes reported that the Ladies in Pink Race night in March was a great success and raised over £1,400 for Cancer Research.  It was a great night with the usual yummy Fish & Chips.  Well done Ladies in Pink. 
 
Sometimes there are events on the Playing Field which limit general use temporarily.  We are sorry for any inconvenience at these times, but all these bookings help fund the Hall, Pavilion and Play Area. 
 
Lots of our regular classes that already run at the hall are always happy to welcome new members so if you are interested in Yoga, Zumba, Pilates, Pickleball, Fitsteps or Thai Chi please do get in touch and Lisa will put you in contact with the group leaders.   Also, there is a monthly Art Class in the Pavilion for those with an artistic flair. 
 
Lovely to see the sunshine lately which reminds us that it won’t be long until Brailes Show so now is the time to get growing, making, painting and planning and hopefully getting involved in this amazing event. Sorry for the belated Happy New Year.  Hope you all are well and looking forward to Spring.  Fed up with just rain now, please stop!   Hopefully you all managed to get along to the Hall and see “Camelot the Panto”, looking forward to the pictures.   Remy who has overseen all things Panto is sadly leaving the Village so we wish him well back in France and thank you for a great show. 
 
Hopefully by the time you read this the Hall will be looking all posh with our new curtains in the Main Hall.  And fingers crossed you all approve of the colour.  A hard decision to make so well done to our Chair Susan Gilkes for the difficult decision (with input from some indecisive committee members 😊).  We are also applying for grants to improve the kitchen.  So with the help of Selina Hosell, who is kindly working her magic with the grant application, we have our fingers crossed. 
 
The 2026 diary is starting to fill up but if you would like to book, please do get in touch with Lisa.  We still have spaces for regular weekly or monthly classes in both the Hall and Pavilion especially on a Monday. So if you are thinking of starting a class or group please do give us call or drop us an email, we would be happy to discuss your requirements.
