Alfred Woodward was born in the Ellen Badger Hospital on the 5th of September 1921. He was taken a few days later to his home in SHEPESSTREETE, LOWER BRAILES (Sheep Street), and at this village he spent the early years of his life. Since those early years he had a burning ambition to produce a village history, which he achieved in 1988 writing his first book MEMORIES OF BRAILES.

With the assistance of RJ Tait and Barry keeley, Alfred went on to publish A PICTORIAL HISTORY OF BRAILES in two parts, completing them in 2005. Alfred’s books on the history of Brailes, which the photos below and those used around this site are curated from, can be obtained here:
