Sustainable Brailes
Building Resilience In Our Village

Sustainable Brailes started in November 2020 with a small group of 15 people meeting online. We now have over 60 people on our mailing list, and we meet regularly.
“The aim of this group is to share ideas, information and activities that help promote a low carbon community and a sustainable future, as well as have some fun. We are open to any ideas to support and promote local activities around increasing biodiversity, planting trees, supporting local green ventures, growing own food, recycling, bee keeping, greener fuel and
travel, etc. etc.”

Projects we have been involved in include:
Hosting Parish events (Tomorrow’s Brailes in 2023) which led to the Green Initiatives Parish Council Survey and the development of our Action Plan. This plan focuses on the outcomes of the survey by focusing on Energy, Nature and Behaviour Change.
Managing the Thermal Camera Project across the Parish.
Hosting stalls at Brailes Show – with Sustainability in mind.
Seed Swaps.
Planting for Wildlife (Bee Squared Project), managing the Planter on Castle Hill Lane and No Mow May.
Working with the Parish Council to manage our own Parish Community Recycling Centre at Brailes Village Hall and drawing up a map of recycling Initiatives across the Parish.
Being part of the Safe Avon project with weekly testing of Sutton Brook for Nitrates and Phosphates. This has been possible with a grant from Brailes Show, permission from a local landowner and ongoing support from the Parish Council.
In December 2024 we hosted our first Repair Café – we’re planning to continue this initiative on a bi-monthly basis. Our handy volunteers will look at mending and simple repairs to clothes and household items. Each month we have an additional theme (e.g. bike repairs). This is a free event with refreshments. Look out for more details in the Feldon and on Brailes Village News Facebook page.
We’ve been shortlisted for a National Energy Project and have secured £1000.00 funding which we will use for a Community Project in the Parish.
