Dear Villagers
For many years the Pavilion Committee have organised the Brailes 3 Hills Walk on Mayday Bank Holiday Monday and then in later years with extra support from Friends of Brailes School (FOBS) as more and more walkers attended the event each year. The event raises a lot of money for both the pavilion and school which requires a lot of planning and manpower. Many of the organisers have been involved for a very long time and would like to take a step back from organising this event. It has also become increasingly difficult to find enough helpers on the day and people willing to take on organising various aspects of the walk beforehand to ensure it can run safely and meet the all-important insurance requirements.
After advertising in the Feldon News and around the village last year a small working group of old and new faces was formed and have met up regularly since the 2015 walk. We have investigated ways to recruit extra helpers (paid or unpaid) as well as looking at how the walk is organised and ideas to reduce the workload involved. Unfortunately, the group has reached the decision that the 3 Hills Walk cannot take place this year as we simply do not have enough people coming forward to help with organising and running the event on the day. This difficult decision has not been made lightly but an event of this size and nature needs commitment and organisation at an early stage to ensure that it can run safely and effectively.
If you have been on the walk in the past you will know just how spectacular the views are and what a great atmosphere there is to be enjoyed. We very much hope for the walk to take place next year, but in order for this to happen we will need more people to come and help us on the day and in particular with the advance preparation and organisation in the months beforehand.
