Sustainable Brailes: June News

Repair Café:

Our next Repair Cafe is on Saturday 13th June, 10-12 Pavilion. PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE OF DATE. We’ll have our usual repairs available and a copy of our Climate and Nature Action Plan (see below).

Energy Update:

We have continued our conversations with Warwickshire County Council, and we are working together with support from a local(ish) university to plan an energy event for Brailes over coming weeks and months. This will be aimed at the whole parish, and we’ll be trying to get as many people involved as we can, both households and businesses. Hopefully it will be the start of a process to identify practical things we can do both for individuals and the combined community.

Our ambition is that the outputs will feed into an application for government funding to help make a wider range of energy choices accessible and affordable for all of us. We are thinking about how to make this work in a way that means as many people can take part as possible and are starting to reach out to specific groups, for example heating oil users. You can get involved now – if this interests you, drop us a mail (see below) and someone will be in touch!

National Emergency Briefing:

You may remember that we mentioned this in our February article. The documentary from the briefing has now been released and we have been able to secure a screening of “The People’s Emergency” on Thursday 2nd July 19.30hrs at The Village Hall. It is an eye-opening film featuring nine leading UK scientists and experts updating us on the latest in the climate and nature crisis and its impact on everyday national life. The film features Chris Packham, Deborah Meaden, surprise guests and a wide range of Brits.

It will be followed by a short discussion about what we can do and what it means locally. Doors will open at 19.15hrs. Refreshments will be available prior to the start of the film. Any donations will be used to cover the cost of the room hire, with any excess being donated to the National Emergency Briefing. This is a free event – for tickets either email us or scan the QR Code below. We hope you can join us.

Action Plan:

Sustainable Brailes is on a mission to build a greener, brighter and more sustainable future for everyone. Today, we are proud to launch our new Climate and Nature Action Plan; an ambitious but practical three-year roadmap that has been shaped not only by Sustainable Brailes and the Parish Council, but local businesses and residents from across our community.

We want our Parish to become a place where sustainability feels positive, practical and community-driven, rather than overwhelming or inaccessible, and the plan has been created with this in mind, uniting the community around positive, achievable initiatives that will make a real difference to the Parish we all care about. The core focus of the plan is a simple one – reduce waste, lower energy use, improve biodiversity and encourage more sustainable habits, while making sustainability feel accessible, community-led and optimistic.

Many of you will already have seen some of this activity taking shape – from our repair cafés helping residents fix and reuse everyday items, to thermal imaging cameras helping households identify heat loss and save money on energy bills – we are already seeing how practical local initiatives can make a real difference.

Alongside this, we have expanded recycling schemes, launched water testing programmes, supported No Mow May and wildflower planting, developed biodiversity mapping projects and worked with local groups, schools and volunteers across the Parish.

But this is only the start. The real opportunity lies in bringing together residents, businesses, schools and local groups together to create a stronger, more connected community where sustainability becomes part of everyday village life.

So, whether you are interested in energy efficiency, biodiversity, community projects, wildlife habitats, recycling, education or simply helping at events, we would love to hear from you. Every contribution matters. There’ll be a copy of it at the Repair Café and on the Village Website.

If you would like to get involved, share ideas or support future initiatives, please contact us.
